Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation, California

Agricultural Conservation & Resiliency Plan and General Plan

The Hoopa Valley Tribe contracted Social Economic Energy & Resource Renewal (d/b/a SEE Renewal) to assist the Hoopa Planning Department in coordinating and carrying out this exciting multi-year planning project for the Hoopa Valley Tribe in Hoopa, California. The Hoopa Valley Tribe was awarded funds from the State of California Department of Conservation Sustainable Agricultural Lands Conservation (SALC) Program in 2022 to prepare an Agricultural Conservation & Resiliency Plan and General Plan to address climate change, housing needs, community development, encroachment, and other threats in an ecologically sustainable manner. The SALC program is part of the California Climate Investments Initiative that uses cap and trade dollars to support projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen the economy, and improve the health and environment, particularly in disadvantaged communities. The Agriculture Conservation & Resiliency Plan will ensure the protection and conservation of agricultural and traditional food lands, resources, and natural systems. The General Plan will incorporate key Tribal plans and policies and provide an overall framework for future land use and development efforts that reflect what Tribal members and residents want to see in the future for the community. This important project includes developing educational materials, facilitating community meetings, leading stakeholder communication, and plan development.
